There was a time when downtown Chicago was crowded with huge movie theaters and if you wanted to see a new movie that’s where you had to go. Otherwise you had to wait until the local theater had it. Most of the grand old movie houses are gone but crown jewel of them still stands The Chicago Theater right on State St. just south of Lake St. In this video we show the outside sign blazing in all its glory.

A compilation of some of the clips I was able to get on video. It was a great show and borderline religious experience for all in attendance. I was worried she would not have a good voice but she delivered a stellar performance up till about Freeway when you could tell she was getting tired, but she pushed through it like the true Queen of Soul.
