Chicago Cubs 2011 Preview: Spotlight on Starlin Castro, Tyler Colvin, and Carlos Marmol
Chicago Cubs Tickets

n a View of the Diamond with Bloomberg Sports, Sports Analyst Rob Shaw previews the Chicago Cubs and what to expect in the 2011 season. Shaw tells us that this early in the season there is always room for optimism. On that note, in the infield all eyes will be on Starlin Castro. While he surprised with a .300 average last season, Shaw says that Cubs fans should have some caution considering he is outperforming his production at the Minor League level. Nonetheless, he remains a bright young star and can still evolve as a better all-around player. Next in the outfield, Shaw is curious to see what Tyler Colvin will offer. After blasting 20 home runs as a rookie, Colvin will have to battle some aging veterans for playing time. Shaw is curious to see if this pressure will make him an all-or-nothing slugger or a batter who can improve his average. Next, Shaw points to ace Carlos Zambrano. Last season, Zambrano proved he can rank amongst the elite when all goes well, but he’ll need to step up right from the beginning of the season to keep the Cubs competitive. Shaw offers some caution on fireballer Carlos Marmol before acknowledging that the Cubs can be competitive if all goes right, but there are a lot of things that have to align for the Cubbies to advance to the playoffs. Here’s the script:
In a world where other teams worried about things like victories…and championships…

One franchise stood alone…and said “We will have bison dogs”
Festivals on every corner.
Sir Paul McCartney will visit.
Ferris Bueller, too.
How about promotional floppy hat night?
You want a marginal celebrity singing the 7th inning stretch? You got one
every single home game.
Throw in a dozen health violations while you’re at it.
And this guy [Soriano] for another few years.
Him too if you’re lucky [Marmol].
And then, when all the games have been lost and there are no more revenue
drivers left…only one franchise can spend the entire off-season figuring out
a way to justify raised ticket prices.
Again.
Because next year … they’ll have … ostrich burgers. They are … your
Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs Are Back.

the Cubs are back on WGN. Len and Bob have the call.
